Old 4th Ward Distillery

$5.00

Wednesday, December 20th 2017 6-8pm $5.00 Donation for CHOA

About 80 years ago, "drinks before dinner" was not an option. Imagine Thanksgiving dinner with Uncle Bob but no gin and tonic to ease the conversation. Prohibition assaulted America from 1919 to 1933, but Georgia suffered long before that due to the organized temperance movement that began in the state in the late 1820s. In 1885 a statute granted voters the right to impose prohibition in their county, and by 1907 most counties had voted themselves dry. RM Rose was one of the last Atlanta distilleries to close their doors, and no one has dared try the process again ... until now. A group of five guys -- childhood friends and business partners (two of whom are brothers) -- stepped out of their comfortable jobs in technology and real estate to open Atlanta's first distillery since the early 1900s.

Redemption Whiskey + Bib & Tucker Bourbon

$10.00

Wednesday, December 13th  7-9pm  $10.00

The Redemption name was chosen to reflect the idea of Rye re-claiming its status – prior to prohibition, it was the #1 selling type of whiskey. Redemption whiskeys all have a high rye content in its recipe which gives it a distinct flavorful spicy taste. The whiskey is all sourced in Lawrenceville Indiana from the old Seagram’s distillery, founded in 1847. The whiskey is batched and barreled in Bardstown Kentucky at Bardstown Barrel Selections. The distinctiveness of Redemption comes from the attention to detail during the ageing and batching process which is all done to taste, insuring consistency bottle to bottle. The combination of high rye content and proof allows the whiskey to gain significant flavor in new charred oak barrels with less ageing. Each bottle of Redemption whiskey is hand numbered to reflect the batch and bottle, a sign of the attention to detail put into making the final product.

*Bib & Tucker was a term noted to describe a tuxedo or fanciest attire one might wear to a wedding, and Harv Gates the brand ambassador of 35 Maple Street Spirits says that exactly what they are doing. This is a sourced bourbon from an undisclosed distillery. It uses a mashbill of 70% corn, 26% rye and 4% barley and is aged in No. 1 charred American oak for a minimum of 6 years.

Scotch Tasting

$15.00

Thursday, November 30th 2017  7-9pm   $15.00

Benromach -We’re happy to say that Benromach is a family-run distillery. And there’s a story behind why we make every drop of our whisky in the traditional handcrafted way. Our story, starts generations ago. Our family, the Urquharts of Elgin, have always been passionate about whisky. Our ancestor John began laying down casks of single malt at different distilleries in 1915, when everyone else was blending their whiskies. As a result, over the decades, our family has accumulated a remarkable private collection of extremely rare and beautiful aged single malts. So when we bought the mothballed distillery here at Benromach in 1993, we knew we wanted to revive it in a very particular way. Backed by generations of expertise, we decided to recreate the lost taste of gorgeous old Speyside whisky: beautifully balanced with a touch of smoke.

Gordon & MacPhail-Established as a grocery business in 1895 in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside region, we originally curated all manner of groceries from around the world such as teas, coffees, wines and whisky. Their appreciation of the rich tapestry of flavours they encountered led the founders, James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail, to seek out and complement this varied stock with equally fine produce in the form of Speyside’s many and varied single malt Scotch whiskies.

We will be sampling:

Four Roses Bourbon Tasting

$10.00

Thursday November 2, 2017  7-9pm  $10

THE LEGEND OF FOUR ROSES: It began when Paul Jones, Jr., the founder of Four Roses Bourbon, became smitten by the beauty of a Southern belle. It is said that he sent a proposal to her, and she replied that if her answer were “Yes,” she would wear a corsage of roses on her gown to the upcoming grand ball. Paul Jones waited for her answer excitedly on that night of the grand ball…when she arrived in her beautiful gown, she wore a corsage of four red roses. He later named his Bourbon “Four Roses” as a symbol of his devout passion for the lovely belle, a passion he thereafter transferred to making his beloved Four Roses Bourbon.
